To all the cis persons whose careers trans persons have made or contributed to making. Hoping someday us trans persons also get to make our careers, get rights, and you all actually turn up in solidarity and not remain silent bystanders. 1/9
Sometimes I have really felt angry, tired at how these innumerable questions we answer everyday from those in judgment, prejudice, in curiosity, to those wishing to study us, to those interested in surveys, never seem to end. 2/9
This is not in tirade against anyone in particular, or against research or orgs. It is imp. But against a perennial tiredness & exhaustion. I usually respond to questions, surveys every day. Sometimes more than 4 in a day. I am sure others have experienced this too 3/9
Queer & trans persons are often distrustful just as many others who or whose experience is the subject of some questions or research, precisely because most of them never end up translating into meaningfully changing their or other trans persons' lives 4/9
Also because most of those reproduction of accounts end up deviating and getting trapped in a cis het lens. Is that wrong unless the context specifically demands? I don't know. 5/9
And some of us simply don't want to talk/respond, often tired of the same set of experiences happening over the years. & to answer questions, with every info going out meaning invisibility & stealth going away so why? (for whom that matters ) 6/9
Many many persons who take our responses never come back to even at least show us where it's been published, what it's part of, or even 'pay' us (where they can) etc. (Some exceptions are media articles as to what I know) 7/9
Also a lot of who is the subject and researcher and what response comes goes through other set of prejudices held based on caste, class, gender, ability, religion, location etc. 8/9
What should I be grateful about? That some people in the world are finally interested in translating our experiences and that leading to awareness? Or the sudden slow opening up of spaces, but only tokenistically? Or should I worry about lack of awareness in the first place? 9/9
