Continuing with my Twin Peaks: The Return quarantine rewatch with the excellent Part 14 "We Are Like the Dreamer." THREAD 1/
The exterior of the Mayfair Hotel in Buckhorn, South Dakota is actually located in Pomona, California. David Lynch fans will of course remember the Pomona conversation from Inland Empire. 2/
Is there a more evocative, intriguing line than the final words of Lois Duffy, "I'm like the blue rose..."? Now that's a Twin Peaks spinoff I would love to see! 3/
My face when I see all those people who can't be bothered to stay at home. 4/
A series or a movie focusing on the relationship between Diane and Janey-E is another one I would love to see - would Dougie be able to reconcile the estranged sisters?? 5/
The Monica Belucci scene is filled with tension and dread, demonstrating Lynch's ability to give an uncanny feeling to a seemingly ordinary moment. But I wouldn't interpret her message to literally mean that the entire series is a character's dream; it's far too reductive. 6/
I find it a shame that David Bowie's voice had to redubbed as per his request. I think his Southern accent is legendary. 7/
Jackrabbit’s Palace is located in Olallie State Park, Washington. Unfortunately, whether due to fans or due to weather, it no longer looks it as it once did. I'm glad I caught it while it was still as glorious as it was during filming. 8/ https://tmblr.co/Z7xdtX2ixMVm1
My favorite scene from Part 14 is at the White Lodge Entrance. I visited Olallie only days after it first aired and I was trying desperately to find it. I almost gave up when it felt like something guided me off the main path right to it! Incredible! 9/ https://tmblr.co/Z7xdtX2i_7mo-
It's a dramatically satisfying twist of expectations that Andy and Lucy, characters of pure heart mostly used for comic relief, are given heroic moments in The Return. 10/
The scene with Naido, Chad and the Drunk all whimpering at each other is a direct callback to Bobby and Mike barking at James in the Pilot. Twin Peaks jail is a strange place. 11/
So what's the deal with Sarah? The way I see it, she's possessed by the female equivalent of BOB (another one of the eggs hatched by the Mother/Experiment in Part 8), thus explaining her culpability in Laura's abuse. Is she Judy or is the Mother Judy, well... 12/
I love how the conversation at The Roadhouse takes an ominous turn at the mention of Tina. Once again, no one can create deeply disturbing atmosphere that gets under your skin like David Lynch. 13/
I know some people hate this song, but to me Lissie's "Wild West" is one of the best and certainly most upbeat Roadhouse performances. All in all, this is a uniformly excellent part. 14/
