I've been, and still am, posting a story as part of a challenge that I've been running on and off, the #puckreads #hockeyfiction challenge. I've got one more installment of the story to post before i'm caught up :)
'The Fifth Question' is a story connected to 'Truth Love and Sushi, Mr. Klein Goes to Albany, Never Again and The Rogue Files. It's also connected to the New York Empires series. #puckreads #hockeyfiction
It's a story about men's and women's hockey, about Passover, set during the middle of a better managed pandemic, told through the lens of Jewish social justice. You can find the earlier installments through a link in this thread: https://twitter.com/nystacey/status/1251137964266131457?s=20 #puckreads
The installment I'm about to post, for the prompt 'stick' leans more into Passover and the developing relationship between the characters. I hope you like it.

Jess definitely wasn’t going to miss a tutoring session. Nope. Not at all, not ever, even though she was tired and couldn’t keep her eyes open. So she sent an email.

I’m exhausted. Can you call me? 555-5555 #puckreads #hockeyfiction
She got into bed and took her phone with her. Soon, it rang.
“Hey,” he said, his voice rolling over her. “You want a bedtime story ?”
“I thought you’d sing me a lullaby,” she quipped back, settling further under the covers.
“Ah. Lullaby. I see.”

He paused and she wondered what he was going to say. “What will stick? Will it stick if I sing the melody?”
“At this point I have no idea. Soothe me, please, Ben Klein. Or loose me forever.”
He laughed and the sound of his laugh made her smile.
