On Aug. 14, 1990, playing against England, he became the then second youngest cricketer to score a Test century. He made 119 runs (not out) in the second innings of the second Test at Old Trafford, England, helping India draw the match.

During the 1992 tour of Australia, he became the youngest batsman to score a century in Australia. In the third Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground, he scored an unbeaten 148 runs and followed it up with an innings of 114 runs in the final Test at Perth.

In 1992,Tendulkar made his debut at the ICC Cricket World Cup, in which he scored 283 runs and was awarded the Player of the Match twice – for scores of 54* (62) vs. Pakistan and 81 (88) vs. Zimbabwe.

In 1998, during the second innings of the first Test match of Australia’s tour of India, Tendulkar set the course for an intense professional rivalry with Shane Warne, smashing the bowler to all parts of the stadium. He made 155 runs in the innings.

Tendulkar followed his Test success with two consecutive centuries in a Triangular tournament in Sharjah, UAE, in 1998. The two performances are often referred to in cricket chronicles as Desert Storm.

During the 1999 wc, Tendulkar’s father passed away and he had to miss the game against Zimbabwe to attend his father’s funeral in India. A somber Tendulkar returned for the next game against Kenya and went on to score an unbeaten 140, dedicating the century to his late father.
In the 1st Test in Chennai of their 1999 tour of India, Pak had set a target of 271 runs.India were soon reduced to 86 for 5. Despite the odds, Sachin scored a fighting 136 runs before succumbing to Saqlain Mushtaq, after which the batting collapsed and India lost by 12 runs.
In 2002, after he equaled Sir Donald Bradman’s record of 29 Test tons, Fiat India gifted him a Ferrari-360 Modena.

The 2003 WC was Tendulkar’s fourth appearance in the coveted title. He scored a dominating 75-ball 98 against Pakistan. One of the hallmark moments of the match was when Sachin lashed at a short-and-wide delivery from Akhtar over backward point for a six.

Though India went down to an in-form Australian side, Tendulkar was adjudged the Player of the Series for scoring 673 runs at an average of 61.18, which included 6 fifties and a century. This remains the most number of runs scored by a player in a World Cup.

The legendary batsman announced his retirement from ODI cricket in 2012. This was followed by his retirement from the IPL in 2013. The same year, he announced he would retire from all forms of cricket after the Test series against West Indies.
