This is one of those "moments you'll never forget" sports memories in my life. I was 15 years old (three days shy of my 16th birthday), and that was my first season working with @SeanWheelock in the Wizards radio broadcast booth. (1/?) https://twitter.com/SportingKC/status/1253330060024528900
(2/?) Sean was gracious enough to let a punk kid hang out and do stats for his broadcasts. I learned so much about both broadcasting and soccer from being in that booth for four seasons or so. I'm so lucky to have had that experience and to still call @SeanWheelock a friend today
(6/?)... Until I realized Sean was pounding on the glass with his palm, celebrating just as much. I'll never forget that. We composed ourselves quickly, and Sean recapped the match for another 15 minutes and signed off like a pro. Then we turned to eachother and hugged.
(8/?) Winning the Cup was great. But for some reason the Conference Final will always stick with me more. It was such a cool moment for a young kid who just wanted to work in sports and was celebrating feeling like he was a *part* of it.
(3/?) In so many ways that access and experience led me into a career in sports. But forever the biggest memory I'll take from that experience was the Western Conference Final in 2000. First leg was so bad. 0-0 draw. Gut punch road loss in Leg 2. Leaving Leg 3 a crazy must-win
(4/?) All of the tension. All of the drama. I *hated* that Galaxy team. Hendy draws a penalty that Miklos buries in the first half, and the Wizards hold on to force the "Golden Goal Mini-Game." 20 minutes of golden goal after 270 minutes of soccer is funny to me. But the DRAMA.
(5/?) I remember every beat of the winning moment. Can still picture Mo sticking his head in and taking a boot to the face, Miklos rounding the keeper, and sneaking it in high at the near post. The celebration. I remember cheering, which I wasn't supposed to do. I felt so bad...
(7/?) That team obviously went on to win the Cup a week or so later. They did what they did: @TMeola1 stood on his head. Miklos goal poached. Peter locked things down in the back. Mo played with stitches above his eye from his sacrifice in the conference final.
(9/9) That moment and that feeling... in many ways it has driven everything I've done in sports since. Long-time Wizards fans have always called it "The Moment," and it still rings true to me today for so many reasons.
