I’ve decided that after we are out of the Coronavirus and we can safely get back to our lives, I’ll be leaving the United States.
As a Black man in this country, I’ve always been more than aware of the social, political, and financial inequities plaguing marginalized communities.

But even I’m surprised that a global pandemic is not enough to move America towards a better direction.
People are still choosing white supremacy over their own livelihood and we are still empowering both Republicans and Democrats who are benefiting from class warfare.
I can’t in good faith one day raise a family here knowing that our nation is constantly on the brink of implosion and the privileged will just let people suffer to maintain the status quo.
I understand that I sit in a position of immense privilege, and I understand not everyone can even consider leaving.

But for those who can — I’d give thought to it. Leaving for somewhere that leans more into providing basic human rights should be an option.
Further perspective:

- During a historic health crisis, millions are still arguing against every American having healthcare

- Most of the stimulus money to help Americans went to people who are wealthy

The list goes on as to the failures of America on both sides of the aisle.
The argument is not that other places are utopias.

The point is that the intersections of bigotry and lack of any semblance of a safety net in America is more than we should all face.

I don’t want to spend my life waiting for what America may one day become. I want some peace.
