What you can do during Ramadan - A Thread:
1. Make sure you pray all 5 daily prayers on TIME (don't delay!) and try to pray the sunnah prayers. Praying the Sunnah prayers is something we can all neglect throughout the year, but this Ramadan we really have no excuses. The Prophet pbuh said “Whoever prays twelve rak’ahs -
during the night and day, a house will be built for him in Paradise: four before Zuhr and two after, two rak’ahs after Maghrib, two rak’ahs after ‘Isha’ and two rak’ahs before Fajr prayer.” Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, no. 380.
2. Spend less time on social media, and if you do, do NOT spend your time mindlessly scrolling and viewing useless content. This month is the most blessed month of the year, and it could be your last.
3. I know most people are attempting to read the Quran at least one, but try and read the translation/tafsir as well. The reward for reading the Quran in Arabic is immense - The prophet pbuh said “Whoever reads a letter from the Book of Allah, he will have a reward. -
And that reward will be multiplied by ten. I am not saying that “Alif, Laam, Meem” is a letter, rather I am saying that “Alif” is a letter, “laam” is a letter and “meem” is a letter.” (Tirmidhi). However, the majority of us cannot understand Arabic and if you do, it's -
-better to read the tafsir, so that you have a better understanding of what you are saying. This way, you attain both the reward of reading it in Arabic, and you also contemplate on the verses Allah has revealed, allowing you to cleanse your heart and develop a relationship -
With the Quran that is far more deeper than just reading it as fast as you can.
4. Watch lectures and inspiring series! One series I love watching is by Fahad al Kandari - he releases a new one every year and they're all different, last year he delved into different ayahs in the Quran, some pertaining to law and others scientific miracles.
5. Work on improving your manners. Having good manners is extremely important, as the Prophet pbuh said “The most beloved of Allah’s servants to Allah are those with the best manners.” (Al-Bukhari). Try and apologise to those you have hurt and forgive those who have hurt you-
Holding a grudge right now might not seem like a lot, but on the day of Judgement, it can be the difference between entering hell or heaven. You can also stop swearing, gossiping + backbiting (something that's really easy to do on social media) and don't get into petty arguments.
Learn to become more generous, kind and grateful for the blessings we all have. As it says in the Quran "And if you should count the favours of Allah, you could not enumerate them. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful." (Surah Nahl, Ayah 18).
6. Read about the stories of the prophets, and ponder on them. We talk about them so casually, but they were actual people like you and I, and to put yourself in their shoes can help you figure out how to navigate problems in your life. For e.g., if you think about it, the -
- majority of the prophets had problems with their immediate family - Ibrahim (a.s.) with his father, Asiya (may Allah be pleased with her) with her husband, and Yusuf (a.s.) with his brothers. It goes to show that for a lot of us, our biggest struggles in life will be -
-dealing with those closest to us, and you can find comfort in the fact that the emotions you have experienced have been experienced thousands of years before you were alive. Look at how the best of people coped with loss, anger, sadness, betrayal, jealousy, joy, contentment -
and try to emulate it. I hope this thread was useful, and inshallah we can all make use of this month, especially since we're all stuck inside. Use it as a time for self-improvement, discipline and to build your akhirah.
