A couple of people have asked me for creative writing ideas for prisons, so I am just putting a thread up. I've never worked in a prison, but this works well with excluded children and families. You start with this poem by the magnificent Rita Ann Higgins.
Then you ask the group for things that only they know, and make a list. The great thing about this poem is that it structures the thoughts into a clever, impactful shape. You can do it with a group, like this Inclusion one.
Or individual poets like Shania might like to write their own. It's a great structure. It holds people and their anger.
