Waxing poetic about deindustrialization and degrowth is largely done from a position of extreme privilege. Most of the 21 century& #39;s economic growth (and emissions if we don& #39;t decarbonize that growth) will happen in poorer countries, not richer ones.
To put it another way, making clean energy cheap enough to fuel development (something we& #39;ve made enormous progress on in the past decade) will be far more impactful to emissions than any voluntary curtailment of future growth by rich countries.
