Waxing poetic about deindustrialization and degrowth is largely done from a position of extreme privilege. Most of the 21 century's economic growth (and emissions if we don't decarbonize that growth) will happen in poorer countries, not richer ones.
To put it another way, making clean energy cheap enough to fuel development (something we've made enormous progress on in the past decade) will be far more impactful to emissions than any voluntary curtailment of future growth by rich countries.
