Those insisting it's never going to be safe to resume normal life are absolutely exhausting and downright toxic. Their defeatist coping methods require scolding those who refuse to join in their delusion.

And if you say as much -- that the epidemiologists and public health experts know what they're doing re: reopening the country in a phase-by-phase way -- you're accused of not taking coronavirus seriously or putting the economy over human beings. It's just depressing.
I can't be the only one sick of the histrionics. It's possible to acknowledge coronavirus is very serious and vulnerable populations need special protection, while still saying that life cannot continue this way forever. It's possible to be concerned without losing your mind.
Since day one of this ordeal, public discourse has been directed by the hysterics from the loudest voices who need to exorcise their anxieties in a public space. It's performative and gross, and they're minimizing legitimate public health guidance from experts.
And the announcement from the DC mayor is a perfect example of what people are worried about: power-hungry lawmakers delaying reopening to achieve some sort of pie-in-the-sky policy goals that have nothing to do with people safely returning to work and to normal life.
