This thread is worth reading, especially if you're someone who buys on Nook. https://twitter.com/racheline_m/status/1253325243998851072
I understand that Nook readers get defensive because Amazon's push for exclusivity has left them frequently inconvenienced. I have tried hard to make my books as widely available as possible as an accessibility issue & on principle.
But the pressure Nook readers put on authors can be a little bananas. Last year someone yelled at us for going exclusive to Amazon b/c they hadn't seen a new book on Nook.

We hadn't released a new book. Because illness and cancer.

But people come in hot over the topic.
The truth is, we lost hundreds of thousands of dollars by fighting to keep our books wide & available. I know this b/c I know how much money we made in the 6 months we put Beyond exclusive on KU.

We gave up SO MUCH MONEY for principle & our feelings about exclusivity.
And that was our choice. But when B&N literally STOPS PAYING US, at what point of sacrifice have authors given up enough to the cause? Indie authors can't hold back Amazon alone, and the abuse we get for engaging with them (french bookstore anyone?) is exhausting.
Draft2Digital is going like 15 extra miles here and my first reaction was "oh y'all no" because I fully expect they're going to get fucked for taking out a loan to pay us. @Draft2Digital is the first person in my experience as an author NOT to pass the shit stick to me.
I hope everyone recognizes how rare this is. I have had so many vendors collapse on me over the year & I've never seen that money. I don't want Nook to be one of them. I'll keep distributing my books for the time being.

But I will no longer accept being yelled at about it.
So I guess if you want to fight me in the parking lot one-armed, French Bookstore Style, I'll be here.
