Hi y'all! We assumed you'd be missing the shore as much as we do. So, we dug into our archive taken over time and asked @SejalMehta06 to lead a virtual @MLOMumbai walk to Juhu Beach. Checkout the thread below!

#tidepooling #mlomvirtualwalks
Juhu beach - one of our busiest beaches (pre-virus), sitting next to jammed roads, high-rises, providing entertainment to families, tourists, romantics, philosophers, children athletes, and...tidepoolers.

#tidepooling #mlomvirtualwalks
Let's walk along the water, by this Spiral melongena shell. This one's empty, but we walk on, and might meet one with an animal later. :)

Dip your feet in the water as you walk. You've missed this, so have we.

#tidepooling #mlomvirtualwalks
Okay, gather around for this clam. The animal seems to be burrowing, making a clean exit from this walk. Usually you'll see them clamped shut. This is a happy sighting.

#tidepooling #mlomvirtualwalks
If you're really lucky, as you clearly are on this happy virtual walk, Juhu has in the past thrown this surprise at us - a jellyfish pretending to be a UFO.

*faint on cue*

#tidepooling #mlomvirtualwalks
Stop. Jackpot! :)

A pearly sea anemone with a stalk-like body (a part usually buried in the sand). Let's go closer and see the oral disc in the centre and its glorious tentacles.

#tidepooling #mlomvirtualwalks
What's cookin' good lookin'?

#tidepooling #mlomvirtualwalks
It's off press, clearly. :/ Let's move along.
It might get dark soon, so let's head to the rocky shore!

Juhu is wonderful because it has a mix of everything - sandy beach, muddy spaces and rocky tidepools. Come with, we'll walk on.

#tidepooling #mlomvirtualwalks
Careful now. You'll see why we asked you to wear shoes with a firm grip.
Tidepools are home to thousands of creatures - you'll find different species of sea snails all over the shore. Let's go closer to a few.

#tidepooling #mlomvirtualwalks
Rememebr the empty Spiral melongena from earlier? Here's the animal laying eggs. Each of these petal like sacs is a case. :)

Hello, mumma.

#tidepooling #mlomvirtualwalks
When sea snails die, hermit crabs use their shells as homes. This one's got swanky living quarters.

#tidepooling #mlomvirtualwalks
Come, let's zoom out a bit, and look at tidepools. Each is a home, but even what's inside each is home. EG: This sea sponge is a habitat in itself, see?

Thank you for sharing this from your Mumbai trip, @ManiniBansal92!

#tidepooling #mlomvirtualwalks
Next up is this beauty! A feather duster worm, and the tube it otherwise retreats into - made of sand grains and slime.

#tidepooling #mlomvirtualwalks
We've reached close to the water. Look at that glorious sea sponge. This area is a good place to look for sea stars. Let's scatter and search?

Look closely on the rocks, that's where they'll be.

#tidepooling #mlomvirtualwalks
Oh! We have company. Egrets here for their dinner. :)

Take five minutes, people. Look for sea stars. Look at the city in the distance, just next door to so much wildlife.

#tidepooling #mlomvirtualwalks
Yes! Hello sea stars. Social distancing and everything! :)

#tidepooling #mlomvirtualwalks
We saw Spiral melongena eggs earlier. Look at these. These temple flower type things belong to an Carinate rock snail.

Thank you for the photo, Pooja!

#tidepooling #mlomvirtualwalks
It's a Sea fan! This is a soft coral. It's part of the Cnidarian family (same as jellyfish and anemones). A plant look alike but definitely an animal.

#tidepooling #mlomvirtualwalks
In Juhu you can't go far without meeting Porcelain crabs.

Bye, you two!

#tidepooling #mlomvirtualwalks
You guys are the luckiest virtual group ever. Who sees an octopus on their first virtual shore. Who?

#tidepooling #mlomvirtualwalks
That's all for tonight. It's late. The sun's setting. Goodnight and see you on another virtual shorewalk soon. Stay home and stay safe.

#tidepooling #mlomvirtualwalks
