A running pre-draft thread*...

(*surely filled with smokescreens that will all be revealed in a few hours...)
1. I believe the two most aggressive trade-down candidates are #Lions at No. 3 (they may not have any takers) and #49ers at No. 13 & No. 31 (they may have action at both spots). #Panthers at No. 7 & #Jaguars at No. 9 are both targets for teams jumping up for a tackle who slides.
2. Offensive tackle order is chaos. Some teams don't like Wirfs or Wills as OTs, some believe both are. Either could be a #Giants pick at 4, or both could slide a bit inside the top 10. Andrew Thomas is most consistent top OT. Mekhi Becton may end up falling into the 10-14 range.
3. A LOT of stuff flying around the league since Sunday about #Dolphins being on an OT at No. 5. Teams near them aren't buying it. Another QB-needy team thinks Herbert is Miami's guy and has been throughout. I think pick comes down to how Miami feels about Tua's long term health.
4. Back to #Lions, gamesmanship feels like Detroit trying to motivate interest as #Dolphins & #Chargers try to figure each other out at 5-6. Neither Phins or Chargers want to move, but one has to if both have the same QB preference. Chargers DO have an OT fallback option in mind.
5. A little more on the QBs, I think Herbert is the #Chargers preference. I think they like him a lot. But I also think Tua's medical weighs in the assessment. It's a franchise that will take some risks on some medicals, but Tua's hip has definitely been a point of concern there.
6. Back to #Giants, I think the OT conversation is Wills vs. Wirfs. Nick Saban carries some weight with some inside the Giants and I think his opinion has helped Wills a lot in the assessment. But Wirfs absolutely blew some away at the combine. Giants think both can/will be OTs.
7. #Panthers are a bit of a mystery inside the top 7. I doubt anyone is 100-percent certain who is making the pick or how the new regime is finding a consensus, so that has led to a lot of unknowns. The org and how it has operated since the end of the season has been confusing.
8. #Cardinals have spent time shaping up OT. As we've gotten closer, I've felt like that is the priority at No. 8. The rub (as with everyone angling for OT) is what their tackle stack looks like and if the preferred guy is there. In their perfect world I think this is an OT pick.
