“Why can't you see me? Why can't you see me? Everyone else can.”
The way Beyoncé uses Warshan’s words to talk about her hyper visibility which means due to fame the ENTIRE WORLD loves Beyoncé but her husband can’t see how much she loves him. It makes me so sad #4YearsOfLemonade
“Why do you deny yourself heaven? Why do you consider yourself undeserving? Why are you afraid of love? You think it's not possible for someone like you. But you are the love of my life. You are the love of my life. You are the love of my life.” MAKES ME CRY SO MUCH
She’s absolutely shocked that a man who carries himself with so much confidence is afraid of such a base emotion. Real love! Beyoncé has incorporated before in her music how women are raised for marriage so she’s prepared for all that and isn’t afraid...but are men the same? No!
It’s the way Beyoncé repeats over and over that Jay is the love of her life. Not just as a declaration. Not just as a statement to convince him that their love is forever. I imagine she’s also talking to herself. A promise in her mind that she can’t break that he’s her soulmate.
“Are you cheating on me?” “Why can’t you see me” “pull me in” “You are the love of my life”
Repetition is such a core aspect of Lemonade. I like to imagine it’s when Beyoncé‘s conveying that she’s in need of an response not from Jay but herself. The answer was always in her.
“I don't know when love became elusive. What I know is, no one I know has it. My father's arms around my mother's neck, fruit too ripe to eat. I think of lovers as trees ... growing to and from one another. Searching for the same light.” THIS was a WORD!
I see the mother/father fruit comment to symbolize when earlier generations would marry at the wrong time, picking fruit at the wrong time and so the union is simply doomed to fail. No wonder romantic love is elusive when the people you learn the definition from don’t have it
“Growing to and from one another” Two people growing together and into each other filling up the dead spaces empty in themselves and bringing life to them. “Trying to find the same light” the love that all humans want but can’t have unless they already have it within themselves!
