Expecting moral clarity and benign will in the electorate, featuring Donald Trump as the alternate, is simply unreasonable at this point. https://twitter.com/EoinHiggins_/status/1253337198763503617
Moralizing at this point, is a futile exercise in understanding the hegemonic movement behind Biden. The media will utterly ignore it and the people who think about voting Trump are not concerned with this, as his victory in 2016 made abundantly clear.
Anti-Trump reactionaries turned out in droves to vote Biden, mostly on "electability", the media ringing the alarm bells on Trump, no matter how legitimate or not has an impactful sway on voters across all lines, mostly in Biden's favor. Biden is considered "lesser evil"
People will pause policy concern for simply getting Trump out. Highlighted by exit poll favor of Bernie's policies and "socialism". But Biden is the safer "return to normal" "Get Trump and R's out" candidate with perceived unifying centrist messaging.
"Get Brexit Done" all over again. What Labour denied & Corbyn waddled over. Bernie of course has blue wave message & removing Trump, but core message is revolutionary, anti establishment policy. Some may argue hurt in terms of party unity. Biden is "Get Trump Out, B2Normal"
Went off on too much of a tangent related to this thread more than the one linked. Pete, Amy, and Biden rode media headwaves off electability despite obvious wokeness. Exit polls enormously emphasized electability despite policy agreement with Bernie https://twitter.com/J0E30330/status/1253383280235290624?s=19
The idea that idpol is meaningless doesn't translate to reality. If it were Bernie's downfalls then there's clearly an idpol at play, just one that is counter to traditional left messaging, you don't compromise that, you use effective messaging.
