On Monday, I woke up thinking “I’m a bit bored. I know exactly how my day is going to go. I wish it could be a bit more exciting”.
And then the internet cut out during my Laughter Yoga class. People couldn’t hear me, I couldn’t hear them, I couldn’t see them.
All those faces that usually laugh along with me, were frozen at their most seemingly disapproving (that’s always how people freeze on calls like this, isn’t it?).
Those who like to talk about “the universe” might say “you asked for it to be a bit more exciting, and the universe just delivered – what did you expect?”
It’s true. I did ask for it. In a way.
Mid-class, I had to log off the call & switch to my partner’s 4G hot spot from his phone. When I came back on the call, I was touched beyond belief to see the class carrying on laughing without me. Beautiful humans.
I speak at the beginning of my class about how when we laugh, it can potentially release tears, and that it’s important to let them flow, let them out, allow laughing/crying to be a thing. Because we all have tears inside us at the moment that need to be allowed out.
The moment the call ended, I took a deep breath and felt tears rising. I allowed them to flow. I allowed my inner child to be very upset about the whole thing. (Proof in the photo)
The internet cutting out & my class being a bit shaky, is, with cosmic perspective, a very small thing, but there were tears inside me that needed to come out. I did the same process as with laughter “fake it til you make it” to make sure all the tears had had their chance.
This eventually turned into laughter. My partner and I had a great laugh about what a good cryer I am. I'm the best he's ever known.
(He is used to taking pictures of me in weird situations, so wasn’t too surprised when I asked him to photograph me mid-tears.)
What am I trying to say with this thread?
1. This Laughter Yoga teacher is not happy and jolly all the time.
2. Laughter isn't all about laughter. It can be an amazing gateway to releasing all emotions.
I’ll be back tomorrow for another laugh – maybe my internet connection will be good again.
Maybe it won’t. No guarantees.
But we'll have a jolly good go.
