/ It& #39;s incredible how #HumanLearningSystems practice is spreading. Some numbers: 14 different case presentations. 511 registrations to take part. 317 participants. All for an alternative approach to public management which got a name less than 12 months ago.
/ The diversity of context amongst HLS practice was remarkable. egs from foundations, public service commissioners, national Govts, small & large voluntary sector organisations. Consultants, think tanks, academics, practitioners all shared. It felt like a genuine collaboration.
/ The way in which organisations working in this way had been able to respond to COVID was striking. An emerging hypothesis: orgs which had already grasped that learning & adaptation (rather than control) is the fundamental purpose of mgt are avble to respond to crisis better.
/ The quality of discussion was remarkably high. People explored some of the key questions & unresolved tensions in the HLS approach (for e.g. the relationship between system co-ordination & self management) in ways which genuinely took our understanding forward.
/ What struck me most was the energy for change. This was a community of practice of people actually changing how public management works. They are making a new paradigm day by day. If you& #39;re looking to make real change happen, these are a great group of people to join in with.
