A big Ramadan mubarak to me from @BOENYC. They rejected my name change because I never sent back a letter I never got from them.

NOTE: The letter was not certified mail. I never got it.

They are taking me off the ballot because my mailman didn’t do his job during #COViD19.

1) your name on the petition does not match their voter file 2) they will not consider the affidavit and papers because we submitted them on Tuesday evening and not Monday at 3pm

The rule for Monday 3pm is not properly written as it doesnt say “Must”be submitted it. It says “Please”. Either way none of us even knew this was an issue until Monday like 9 pm.

When my lawyer @Ali_Najmi told them that the @BOENYC accepted my name change for Bernie delegate and sent a letter confirming they know you are running as “Moumita” their answer was “that was sent by the state board of election”.

At one point the BoE said we could understand the precedence for a name change from Anthony to Tony. Which is a discriminatory thing to say to a Muslim candidate. Our muslim names are more complicated then your average white person’s name.

The city clearly does not work for working class people like me. I will be going to court to fight this injustice. Even though this is an unpaid position. This is about my community and our right to representation, and I will fight for us no matter what.

The @BOENYC lawyer Steven Richardman called me “Mr. Ahmed” and throughout the hearing could not even pronounce my name.
