Choosing Genocide

We& #39;re living in a moment where people are debating sacrificing lives to save the economy and few are talking about how genocidal this thinking really is. It& #39;s a strong word but it& #39;s exactly what we& #39;re talking about here - we& #39;re talking about sacrificing
/1
people so we can all go back to overworking, buying Starbucks and shopping for "things" we don& #39;t really need. Things who have their own problematic global history in their manufacture and delivery.

When presented with the choice between valuing lives or valuing the deadly &
/2
destructive economic systems we& #39;ve created, so many are willing to sacrifice human beings - people who love and are loved - in favour of economic "security". To me, only one of these paths seems true and right while the other feels unnatural and evil to the core.

This is not
/3
how we should be walking in this world.

There are better ways of living in harmony and in balance with the world around us and we haven& #39;t gone too far to turn back. We need to acknowledge the truth of our own complicit actions first. We need to look at what we& #39;ve created and
/4
acknowledge how many we sacrifice so we can live with our comforts and luxuries. We need to acknowledge the VERY CERTAIN death and destruction our current path carries - not only for ourselves, but for other beings in this world who walk WITH us...not beneath us.

When I
/5
was growing up my father always told me "there& #39;s no such word as can& #39;t" and I really believe this applies to how we move forward. People talk about "political will" but that only goes so far and has no power without a population to give it legitimacy. "Government" is a
/6
fabricated construct created to provide an illusion of guidance and order but in reality we have little of either and, while we& #39;ve been letting others determine our lives and futures, we& #39;ve shirked our core human responsibility to look out for each other and for the earth. We
/7
have failed as a global society for this reason alone.

I think it& #39;s time to start behaving better - as a species. It& #39;s time to leave our idolization of greed and economy behind us. This starts by acknowledging the TRUTH about what& #39;s being discussed by politicians and in the
/8
media - we& #39;re not choosing the "economy", we& #39;re choosing genocide and in that choice, our own certain destruction.
