THREAD: I’ve been raising money to help people with their expenses during covid-19 through the #RENTRELIEF campaign.

We’ve raised about $300k and given away $250k to over 1,200 people around the world.

There is one story in particular that is on my heart and I want to share.

I started hosting IG Lives and choosing random requests from people to have conversations and send money.

The conversations have ranged in topics. Just a space for positivity and whatever people want to talk to me about.

Yesterday I met Malyssa, whose story humbled all of us.

When Malyssa came on I asked why she was going live from her car and she explained that she was on the side of the road.

Her car had just broken down while she was trying to make money by driving people around and the tow truck was about to take her last $134.

Malyssa explained that her daughters were in the car and she had lost money because of a predatory person posed as a landlord lying to her and robbing her.

She was worried about where they were going to stay or what she was going to do next.

People on the feed decided to donate money to her and instead of the $200 I’ve been giving I gave her an extra $400 from me personally.

Malyssa’s is just one of so many heartbreaking stories and people we are trying to help.

She told me I should share her story to help others.

We NEED to continue doing this work, but we are about to run out of money to support people.
