https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2020.04.16.20067728v1 Beautiful detective work by Yuguo Li, re-enacting the scenario, reviewing video (no fomite or close contact between tables ABC). Shows transmission by microscopic droplets is the best explanation. /1
My guess is the microscopic droplets at play here range from 1-2 microns (yes, "aerosols") up to about 30 microns (1 minute lifetime before settling). /2
Tables ABC are at the most poorly ventilated end of the restaurant, farthest from doors to elevator, bathroom, etc. A/C pushed air back and forth across Tables ABC. /3
Some of this air and the microdroplets would bleed into the rest of the restaurant, but they would be diluted there, meaning much lower chance of exposure. /4
