I think a lot of this dynamic is motivated by envy masked as virtue signaling, and it’s wild that we have let it get this far. But that’s what happens when you let people wear jeans in church.

I feel like every piece of nonfiction has to come with a privilege disclaimer as though it substituted for like actual sustained engagement and thought with inequities in circumstances, and I find it tiresome to read and still more tiresome to watch Twitter respond to it.

I didn't mean to be chaotique. I thought the Daum essay was silly. I didn't feel profound moral outrage. I felt aesthetic fatigue with the genre and the attitude behind it. But I didn't feel a desire to imprison her for her crimes against humanity.
