I’m reading that new Mbembe interview and it feels underwhelming both on the part of the interviewer and Mbembe himself.
I’m trying to understand the rationale of asking the man who penned “Necropolitics” about the significance of the Shoah on his life as though that piece doesn’t singularly refuse the entire historiography of exceptionalism.
If someone asked me this I would leave lmao
This is an interview about how Mbembe adheres to German norms with regards to political guilt and responsibility, Aguigah very clearly has no interest in Mbembe’s work or ideas. The man is being put on trial, full stop.
The objectionable quotes in question, honestly, are straightforward. In the former he describes the political anatomy of Israeli apartheid as more technologically sophisticated than SA; in the latter, he describes both logical parallels AND UNIQUENESS.
