A care home I’ve been in regular contact with has had their first #covid19 death. That patient was tested. But the home’s management tell me they’ve been informed by PHE there will be no further tests for residents and staff as “processes to enable this are not yet established”
This as we’re told there’s more and more capacity for testing to take place. Gap between the podiums and what’s going on on the ground is vast in this area.
This is despite the fact that other residents are showing symptoms. Families are expecting them to be tested and becoming angry and frustrated that they can’t be. Staff little idea what to say to them. Everyone involved v scared.
Matt Hancock just said the govt has expanded testing in care homes to include asymptomatic residents

As the letter above shows, that is simply not the experience that some care managers are having.
Hancock is repeating that "anyone who needs a test" in a care home can get one.

I'm tweeting this email again, received by a care home manager today, saying that Public Health England cannot provide tests to her care home residents and doesn't know when they'll be able to do so
