Green Party leader @EamonRyan says his party has sent back a full letter to the leaders of FF and FG on their framework document - says they specifically want a commitment to 7% annual reduction in carbon emissions
He says there are several good things in the document - including measuring the country’s wellbeing by measures other than its economy - but the carbon emissions target is a red line
Pursuit of the office of Taoiseach “is not on my agenda”, says Ryan
Ryan acknowledges a split within the party over whether to align with FF and FG but says this is healthy - he’s in regular webinars discuss concerns with councillors and members.

On public finances: the job is to knuckle down - if anything it should encourage you to do your bit
Here are the Greens’ 17 questions for FF and FG (1 of 2) - @rodericogorman points out that not all are setting out red lines for their involvement; other are seeking clarifications on issues

Ryan says they’ll will decide on entering talks depending on what clarifications are received. Also notes with caution that discussions will distract, to some degree, from State’s Covid19 response - which he doesn’t think is being hampered by the Govt caretaker status
Ryan stops short of saying the -7%pa carbon commitment needs to be stipulated in the FF/FG reply - but says it would be very hard for the party members (or even the parliamentary party) to approve a final deal without it
Thoughts on the Greens’ choices for cabinet roles are the last thing you’d discuss, Ryan says. Won’t entertain talk of Green Tánaiste.

“Our job is to work with the likes of Michael and Danny Healy-Rae and to win them over to our view,” he says. “Not just me - our whole party.”
“It’s as important for Kilgarvan to go Green as anywhere,” he adds.

On Michael Healy-Rae’s threat to leave the country if Ryan became Taoiseach: “I don’t think he has much to worry about… he doesn’t need to buy any tickets yet.”
