This is a story of a woman supporting her husband in prison.

I have not seen my husband since 23rd February. We’ve been married 36 years. It was always just us. Then this happened and we were torn apart.

2 weeks ago, a person on his wing contracted the virus.

The wing has shared toilets, sinks, showers and phones.

The nurse told them that they would all have been in contact with the virus so the whole wing was then put into quarantine for 2 weeks.

I'm not sure what else they can do to us. My husband’s thyroid gland stopped working over 15 years ago. This condition means he is at risk of developing complications if he contracts Covid-19.

He tries to stay strong but is really scared now having seen just how fast this virus spreads and how the number of deaths is increasing daily.

We speak every day and try to keep each other strong by talking about when he comes home.

We are both terrified about Covid-19. The fear is endless, and we have no control.

There are no words to explain how desolate and despaired we have both become.

Just as we were just beginning to look to the future - coronavirus happened. It has been a life changer. I don’t sleep, my anxiety levels are through the roof.

He is on my mind every single moment of every single day.

He can’t work now so will only receive a basic wage of approximately £10.

He spends at least £15 a week on phone calls so I now have to send him money out of my pension so that he can afford to ring me as I just can’t get through the day if I don’t hear his voice.

I can care for him much better than a prison. I don’t have any contact with anyone at the prison. There is no contact and they don’t tell me anything.

The only communication we have is our phone calls, which mean more than life itself.

I'd rather speak to my husband than eat. I desperately need to know he is safe and - currently I don’t believe that he is safe.
