/ Given that I have safely made it to #SouthKorea I thought I would share my experience on getting over here as well as my first (hopefully last) quarantine experience.

tl;dr I was blown away and super impressed by the process in Korea. No brainer best procedure.
/ Traveling is still a relatively harrowing experience. While I thought I was being overly cautious, many passengers had procured face shields or goggles for the flight and there were a few that were also wearing more PPE than our #NYC doctors have. Flight attendants also wore
/ full body PPE, face masks and disposable gloves for the flight. Some of the in-flight service was limited, but largely business as usual. Of course #JFK was nearly empty and only had passengers from my flight and a skeleton crew working. Terminal 1 also is now closed
/ in the evenings.

On the flight, relatively limited movement and usage of the restroom to restrict contact, but otherwise a pretty uneventful flight.
/ Landing in #ICN was where it gets super interesting. There is one line for everyone to start the #quarantine process. A very orderly and calm line which leads up to the temperature measuring in station where we have to submit the first set of health papers.
/ Your temperature is then written on the paper and you proceed to the next station where volunteers from the Army are confirming the installation of the quarantine #app on your phone.
/ This #app tracks location and also provides a self-diagnosis tool where you input information everyday about your own health. At the airport, it is a generic monitoring service where you are required to submit the information, but in hindsight it seems like a way to make sure
/ everyone understands how to use it and has it installed. You are then guided to the next station where more army volunteers check the next piece of paperwork which includes the address where you will quarantine and the phone number of a guardian / family.
/ The employee calls the number of the guardian / family to make sure someone is there and to confirm the relationship. This employee also reconfirms that the app is installed correctly and corroborates the information on the paperwork and the app.
/ Next station before immigration, foreigners are required to submit a bit more extensive paperwork on attestations around the quarantine which are submitted to a different checkpoint before proceeding to through immigration.
/ After getting your bags and leaving through customs, you are guided through yet another checkpoint where they confirm which city you are traveling to. An employee then asks how you are traveling to the city (personal car, limited shuttle bus are the only methods permitted).
/ If family is there to pick you up, you are permitted to leave (as in my case) otherwise you are placed into another waiting area till the pickup arrives. You are also informed to proceed straight to the public health office of the neighborhood you live in.
/ Heading straight to the public health office, there was no long line. Some more paperwork had to be filled out and employees there were extremely kind and compassionate about it at all. The test itself was a bit uncomfortable given the length of the swab entering the nasal
/ cavity, but all in all painless and super quick. Very impressive. A stark contrast to what's been happening in the states. Now proceeding home to quarantine on a separate floor of our house.
/ The next day I was informed that my test results were negative, 24 hour turnaround WOW! Within 36 hours, a civil servant from the public health office called my Korean phone number to let me know he was now 'in charge of my account'. I was instructed to reinstall the app and
/ Put his employee code in, which would allow it to sync with his phone. What a techie world. He also stopped by that afternoon with a care package, to check I was really there and also deliver a clear apology and request that this was for the public good.
/ A freaking flower pot, temperature strips, disinfectatant spray, hazmat garbage bags, hand sanitizer, masks for myself as well as my family for quarantine and a letter to cheer up during quarantine.
/ Didn't end there. 30 minutes after the civil servant left another care package was delivered with what they coined as essentials. An ample bribe to stay home if you will.
/ An amazing process overall and if anyone has any questions, happy to chat! go #SouthKorea!
