In my opinion popularity contests such as the European Cybersecurity Blogger Awards are absolute bullshit.

There are some insanely talented people that will never be recognized because their following is literally 20 people and nobody has heard of them.
Merit is not a factor in these highschool yearbooks.

Things like these perpetuate the myth that having a following, or being good at marketing, automatically means that you're this 1337 god.

Some people dedicate everything to helping and they will never be recognized.
Does this mean we shouldn't do it?

Agh - that's a tricky one. I appreciate the concept, it's a great concept.

I really appreciate the effort.

Still got a bad taste in my mouth from school.
And this isn't to say the people that are nominated aren't 1337 or talented.

My dude @SecGus is a freaking prodigy and @LisaForteUK is awesome :D

In fact, I did vote, for both of these people. But I still don't agree with it.
To finish this thread off.

You can be a total noob (and do nothing) but just be seen in pictures with the cool kids at cons and anybody can be infosec 'famous'.

I mean look at me, I have a following, and I am a massive noob.
You can follow @pry0cc.
