#TBT: 40 years ago, Henry Moore laid of the foundation stone for the new sculpture gallery extension to @LeedsArtGallery.

The gallery was named after the Castleford-born artist, who was the first full-time sculpture student to enroll at @LeedsArtsUni (then Leeds College of Art).
The Henry Moore Centre for the Study of Sculpture was officially opened by Queen Elizabeth II on 26 November, 1982.

Its aim was to further the study of sculpture in Leeds, with a library, archive, sculpture acquisitions and exhibitions with funding provided by the @HenryMooreFDN
Almost a decade later, The Henry Moore Centre for the Study of Sculpture would move next door into its own building and become the Henry Moore Institute as it is today... you can find out all about that move in this thread: https://twitter.com/HMILeeds/status/1245634492502388738
