Shah Allah Ditta's Sadhu da Bagh caves are an ancient Buddhist monastic site
Shah Allah Ditta is a centuries-old village at the foothills of the Margalla Hills in the Islamabad.
2,400-year-old Buddhist era murals of Buddha appear on the walls of caves at Shah Allah Ditta.
Marked on the ground close to the caves the location where Alexander arrived and was received by Raja Ambi, King of Taxila. The road next to the caves that leads to the top of the mountain, Shah Allah Ditta road, is said to be built on the exact path followed by Sher Shah Suri.
The above photos wete taken a couple of years back. I went recentky and was shocked to see the state of affairs it is in now. The structure itself is crumbling. Loud Indian qawalis are being played at a 'Sadhu's Retreat' where the environment should exude peace.
Garish restaurants are cropping up everyday marring the scenic beauty and charm of the place.
When will be think about preserving the rich heritage that we have!?
