Okay, about beating children. I really abhor it. But it is easy to say. Because this is the thing that parents refuse to admit. It takes effort, intelligence & genuine work to discipline your child vs punish (which beating is) They donât want to. (1/n)
So, my math class was a class of 60 14yr old girls. Majority indisciplined. Their previous math teacher didnât check their homework & told them I wouldnât tolerate that. First day, 21 students didnât do the work. I was actually irritated beyond words.
But I had decided that kind of teacher I wanted to be didnât include beating. So I sat them down & gave them a lecture. I explained why I gave them homework. That it helped me understand what they didnât understand the work. It also helped me get to know my students
I started giving examples of the different work: âThis student, had lovely handwriting but didnât understand the workâ (this showed them that I was actually paying attention to them. Because kids just want to know someone sees them)
The second time: only 5people hadnât done the work. & the day after that again. 8pple. Talking to kids work but they have short memory. 
so now I had to figure out a way to get them to listen.

So I divided them into groups of 5(12groups) & told them. One person doesnât do homework in the group. The entire group is punished. I told them to do h/wk as a group & to help each other out.
The next day 5people didnât do homework but clustered in 3groups. Asked them about my rule. The members of the group who had done the h/wk were horrified. They couldnât believe I was serious.
The punishment was to do a group written & oral presentation on âThe importance of group work for a studentâ they had to interview one student from each class, interview 5 teachers & present. They complained 
Like it took so much time. But after that, I never had a homework issue again. But it took a lot of creativity & follow through & consistency. That is why people are so insistent on beating. It is easy and lazy
So please, if you want to beat your child to PUNISH, not DISCIPLINE, just say you donât have the time or intelligence to raise a child and stop wasting our fucking time 
Kids are a handful. I empathize. Truly with parents. Especially in the Midst of economic upheaval. But kids didnât ask to be born. You have to take on the responsibility of being a parent better than previous generations. If not, donât fucking have kids.
