There was this book rental shop and we were always there so she figured why not work for them, read all the books and get paid for it.
Dad got upset because, apparently, her getting a job implied to the world that she wasn& #39;t being fed at home.

There was a time I got beat for trying to start the generator because my dad came home late. About a year later, I was on permanent generator duty, hating my life.
