A curious feature of Lithuanian religion is that Lithuanian pagans seem to have adopted the name Jurginės (St George's Day) for this day even before their conversion to Christianity. Lithuanians and Prussians offered sacrifices to the agricultural god Pergrubis
It is perhaps not all that surprising, since pagan Lithuania ruled over many Christian subjects in the late Middle Ages, and their faith naturally influenced Lithuanian religion (which seems to have been a rather syncretistic affair)
St George also has a reputation as the Christian saint most popular among non-Christians; but it would be interesting to know to what extent Pergrubis was explicitly identified with St George
