The sad thing is that in🇧🇼we are not a united society or even understand the impact of us standing together, holding leaders accountable together, engaging in CONCRETE ACTIONS.We can’t all agree at the same time but issues that unite us are greater than the disagreements (thread)
Many people don’t understand how accountability works & think it’s disrespectful to ask questions, yet we are in a democracy & practice good progressive governance.
Others think they’re being revolutionary by using insults instead of engaging effectively with their leaders.
The biggest challenge is that our frustrations never go anywhere beyond 1 day of social media outrage. We were all angry that a GBV perpetrator was appointed into cabinet,we did a petition but guess what, only 3 people showed up to Parliament to drop it & almost got shambocked
Take the anti-corruption march,in other countries masses would’ve showed up to protest against such a huge impediment to our development. But in a 🇧🇼?? Only a handful of people showed up yet when we talk about ending corruption, everyone has an OPINION but no ACTIONS to contribute
Let’s go to how stakeholders disregard homegrown talent & competence-we are all angry at BPC but know we’ve moved past it without doing anything. When people like bo Kast,Thabang, take a stand,we ridicule them. We laughed at Thabang a week later gore he was “crying over peanuts”
We don’t understand these fundamental truths:
-leaders have borrowed power, power that belongs to the people
-if we don’t hold them accountable they’re less motivated to deliver
-we shape our reality
-we aren’t outnumbered,we’re out organized
-we are enablers of mediocre
If u claim to be patriotic, someone who believes in equity & improved livelihoods for all, then u can’t only speak out & act when you’re directly affected. We don’t exist in a vacuum & ultimately our issues are intertwined. At some point we’ll ALL need someone to stand with us
I’ve seen some people wanting to shut others when they hold Govt accountable by saying “but u voted for this Govt”-it’s very intellectually bankrupt to think just bcoz u voted for a party u have no right to call them out,u clearly don’t understand how democracy works.
The bottom line is that regardless of how u voted or didn’t, we have a Government for the next 5 years. A political party is a company that is hired in a 5 yr contract by us,to deliver the dev targets. Everyone must hold the company accountable regardless of how they voted 🗳
LASTLY-let us engage constructively & effectively. It’s great to make the noise but beyond the noise we need actions-TOGETHER! It’s not rude (unless u’re using insults) to ask questions & to demand more from our Govt. Thats what “Puso ya batho ka batho means”.Re aga lehatshe jalo
