I would not like Wash nearly as much as I do if he were not within the context of Red vs Blue
Wash is an incredibly nuanced character, but heā€™s only developed this way because of the R&Bs and the general tone of RvB

He is introduced as this jarringly dark character who barely has control of his own head and who is 100% willing to die if it means vengeance
Which is great, donā€™t get me wrong, but itā€™s also the very common deadpan stoic badass hard soldier character that we see in a lot of media.

But even that Wash is a fun addition in S6 bc heā€™s a very dark and serious character put into what is essentially a sitcom
He was still a very serious presence, but his wild bewilderment towards R&Bs brand bullshit added levity to his character and moved plot along while still fitting with the tone of the series.

And ofc he gets dragged into the antics and
And from there we not only see that Wash has a softer side, we find out heā€™s actually a massive dork.

Heā€™s not as smart as he acts, heā€™s far from the most competent freelancerā€” heā€™s not stoic, heā€™s just likes being dramatic. He fits in with the R&Bs way more than we realized.
Heā€™s still paranoid and stiff, but he is also earnest, fiercely loyal, and achingly sweet. At this point, Wash really canā€™t be thrown under ā€œdeadpan stoic badass hard military guyā€ anymore

He becomes a much more unique character because he has evolved to fit this story
Wash ends up as this strange combination of a very formal and militant character who has a sort of awkward, goofy but genuine and gentle personality

And I prefer that immensely over the darker character he might have stayed were he in another show
Also I realize This is Not Exactly Eloquent but itā€™s 2am and Iā€™m just throwing words out into the twitter void tbh
