If any of the Otedola girls got pregnant as teenagers, it won't make a difference. Her future will still be safe.

But if a girl from a poor family in Bariga gets pregnant, she'd likely never get control of her life again.

Some families need more than talking to raise their kids
Beating kids is not the ideal. But then if they are not growing up in an ideal environment/condition,then you need to adopt parenting styles that are not ideal

Most African parents beat their kids not because they love beating or because they are abusive. It is out of love/fear
As an adult raising kids in a place like Nigeria, you know the society doesn't forgive failure, you know what your kids will face if they fail.

I think that forces parents to adopt extreme measures to stop their kids from failing and being at the mercy of the Nigerian society.
Even America and the UK (the usual role model) did adopt "unideal" parenting styles when they were still developing countries with no social buffers/security.

But the moment the country became wealthy and structured enough to support temporary failures, parenting has to change
In today's America, the parenting styles of Black Americans remain quite different from that of white Americans?

Why? Because the American society is unforgiving for Blacks who end up as failures. The Ghetto/Prison is there to punish them. Or death.

So BA parents still spank
But then the fact that you grew up being spanked/beaten doesn't mean you must also raise your kids in the same way.

You are not your parents. You're probably not as poor as them. You probably can afford buffers/security for a child's failure.

Adopt a different parenting style.
Every generation is saddled with the responsibility to write their own history the way they deem fit.

Are you going to stick to the scripts your parents wrote a generation ago? Or you'd adopt something that works for you in YOUR TIME.

Decision Decision. Use your head.
