Morning friends. Just a thought this morning on the media:
1. Where are the giants of Nigerian media industry? Where have the pioneers gone to? What happened to their love for their first love? Why is it that things don't endure in Nigeria? Why do we start and stop most things?/
2. Larry King is 86 and still anchors his talk shows. For many years Larry King live was on @CNN and in 2010 or thereabout he moved his talk show to Ora TV which I believe he founded or had an input in founding. He has since 2010 hosted Larry King Live & Larry King Now in 2013/
3. Larry King is 86 let us let that sink. He interviews giants -Presidents globally, industry giants. Let us look at @camanpour and Barbara Star. These are people who have aged like great wine in the profession. Contrast this with Nigeria. Our pioneers are missing in action at a/
4. time when Nigeria needs them most. Where are the media couple John & Olusola Momoh who founded @channelstv. Why are they not doing what they know best to do? Is it "bigmanism" that has brain-drained the giants or allure for money which the TV station is not providing?/
5. How wonderful it would have been to have John Momoh interview Presidents and Governors like Larry King? Why is there no private Journalism Institute founded by the giants of Nigerian media or why are they not giving back to society that made them. NTA made all of them but/
6. they all watch as NTA is left to fail and they also watch as their own TV Station is taken over by not well baked and unbaked 'dramatis personae' (my opinion)strutting their irritating stuff on a station that set out with ideals which they don't seem to remember because the../
7..idealists that founded the Station are off chasing other unknown dreams. Moving from the Momohs, where are Ray Ekpu, Yakubu Mohammed, Dan Agbese, Muyiwa Adetiba, Olatunji Dare, Akinrinade. They are all MIA. How can our nation endure when the citizens don't endure/
8. A professional must never take his eyes off the ball because the result is a slide into failure. There is money to be made in media industry but lack of focus is the bane. The Nigerian media has for too long relied on the hitherto wasteful largesse of Govt patronage/
9. Advertisements of govt projects, 10 page birthday of Governor felicitations, etc. PMB came and the old man asked? Why should I pay you to report the news? What happened to FGN media stations? PMB set the pace to curb the wanton waste and others followed. Governors also/
10. stopped adverts. Then SM took over delivery of news, real & fake. The Nigerian media is the architect of its own misfortune. They watched the tides changing & sat idly twiddling their thumbs. I end this piece the way I started: Where are the dinosaurs of media? Extinct? End.
