-music school or so. Truth is, parents sometimes impose things they want on children not minding what the kid wants and great at. They probably need to speak to/with him. Son, what are your problems and interests? If he says music, it us their duty to make him see reasons why -
-he should concentrate on doing well in his basic education. Promising him to study music after high school or whatever he wants. Extra lessons or just anything to motivate him. With that in mind, he will most likely do better. For all i know, that beating changes nothing. 
A different approach to this situation will likely birth a different and better result. The mother is not doing well at all. Ooin! A family matter on twitter...
