St. George was a Palestinian Greek born in modern day Turkey. He is not only celebrated as a Christian Saint, but is also venerated as a prophet in Islam.

In addition to his patronage of England, he is the patron saint of Georgia, Malta, Romania, Aragon, Catalonia, Germany, Lithuania, Portugal, Palestine, Istanbul and Moscow!
