Movies I storyboarded but never got made:
SILVER SURFER (1997): Romper Stomper’s Geoffrey was directing. He wanted Ewan McGregor as Surfer and Steven Berkoff as Galactus. Surfer spent most of the movie as a human because vfx would have been too costly then.
DIETER (1999): I worked on all the Austin Powers movies and this was the best Mike Meyers script by far. It was absurd and really funny. Bo Welch was directing.
Mike got cold feet. I feel like it was my fault. I went to a reading of the script with him, Will Farrell and Cathrine O’Hara. It went over great but I think I didn’t laugh enough. Mike kept looking at me — worried. Next day he pulled the plug.
RIPTIDE (1999): Not based on on the 80s tv series. Directed by Rob Bowman (who I worked with on the first X-Files movie). A treasure hunt adventure story. The script never worked but it was a fun idea. Chris Carter wrote a draft.
I learned a lot working with Rob Bowman. He had started as a tv director in his 20s and had endless good, practical ideas for how to shoot stuff. Also worked with him on REIGN OF FIRE.
THIRTEEN DAYS (1999). This did get made but I worked on a version directed by a Phil Alden Robinson that’s would have been better than what made it to the screen.
LOGAN’S RUN (2004) Bryan Singer was directing (after X2, before SUPERMAN RETURNS). I never liked the script but I did design a really good foot/elevator chase sequence.
JOHN CARTER OF MARS (2005). Got made later but this was a totally different version. Kerry Conran was directing. Script was awful. Fun stuff to draw though.
Here are some boards from the unmade Silver Surfer (1997). I couldn't find much.
