One of the most painful things about watching these videos is the realisation that to this day, Kenya as an independent state has deliberately refrained from acknowledging, teaching and recognising this history..

Particularly that of the detention camps https://twitter.com/dijoni/status/1251738265654161408
For scale and context, here is a map showing the spread and scale of detention camps across Kenya.

We are not talking about one little camp in the middle of central Kenya that so happens to be forgotten....
We are talking about multiple centers across the country that have been practically erased from national memory.

The map visualization was based on the book Britains Gulag, however we believe there could more that are not on the list.
Primarily because when you speak to Mau Mau veterans and those of the older generation, they mention camps and centers that are not on the official list.

For instance, my grandparents speak of a camp in Ngong nicknamed Kapenguria, this is not on any records come across so far
We have also managed to create 3D visualizations of camp structures based on evidence of camp remains found today https://twitter.com/ChaoTayiana/status/1166584794685280256?s=20
It has been a learning process for us all and we hope that sharing what we come across in whatever form of media (be it video, 3D, maps, photography etc) will create a greater sense of awareness and understanding of this past
