Happy #WorldBookDay!

I work at a bookstore. Here are a few things I would love my fellow bookworms to know:

1. When asking for a book, kindly state the title and author name clearly. An ISBN is even better if it’s a less-known work. I will have a minor crush on you for that.

2. You can reserve books. How cool is that? But be sure to get it within the time period we state.

3. If you fail to locate the shelves to the genre you’re interested in, don’t be shy to ask me. But wait until I finish serving the customer in front of me first. :(

4. A member card is always worth it if you’re going to keep on buying. If you’re a one-time customer, maybe not. When considering to apply, don’t think about it for too long in front of the cashier counter. The customer behind you will hate both you and me. :(

5. No food and drinks. It’s a bit uncomfortable to let you know about something that’s stated at the entrance. We might want to skip that awkward exchange.

6. Handle with care. I weep at the sight of damaged books.

7. Don’t complain to me about shrink wraps. They’re there for a reason. I don’t mind you asking to open them and then not buying them. :) But I do mind when you choose to buy the same title with the shrink wrap still intact after opening another copy of the same title.

8. Put the book back to its place. Doesn’t need to be perfect. Just in place. Yes we have staff to tidy the shelves up, but on busy days when you leave an only copy at a shelf it doesn’t belong in, we will have a hard time locating it when a customer asks for it. :(

9. There’s a no plastic bag day & I wasn’t the one who invented it. Don’t initiate a debate with me, I’m only there to work.

10. Overall just be kind. I love my job & I love customers who love books. Don’t look at me weird when I say “Enjoy your books!” I genuinely mean it.

11. Bonus point for Sarawakians:

Mun dah masok bulan 3, boh ditanyak gik mun Almanac gik ada. Besar kemungkinan nang sikda gik jual. Bulan 1 dolok marek dah orang beli abis.
