My unsolicited $0.02. I don& #39;t envy the position @LinaHidalgoTX is in - it fucking sucks to have the Texas Republican Party launch a coordinated attack on you - but I do think that the mask requirement wasn& #39;t something she agonized over, because she knew it was the right thing
Let& #39;s say that she loses re-election in 2022 because people are outraged they had to place a cloth covering over their face for a few months. At that point, she& #39;ll be 32, with her Stanford degree and 4 years as the Chief Executive of a county larger than 25 states
She will also know that she didn& #39;t make decisions based on political expediency, but rather, when faced with a crisis, she made decisions based on what was most likely to save lives rather than try to satiate indomitable political opposition
The GOP can invent whatever perceived injustice they want - when we all know they just see a threat. They& #39;re afraid that a 29 year old immigrant is smarter and better than them at everything (she is and is 100x better than her "beloved" predecessor (he lost so not that beloved))
It& #39;s just so fucking frustrating because this bullshit from Dan Patrick and other GOP leaders only makes sense from a crass political analysis. They want to "open the economy",this mask order makes that easier and safer and will help prevent a resurgence.
The opposition is purely partisan - none of them legitimately give a fuck about constitutionality of a requirement to wear a mask. They do give a fuck about trying to score points against a young, up and coming Democrat in Texas though.
