So disclaimer. This is gonna be a windy thread, so if you don’t feel like reading here’s your warning, but here goes:
When I think of a Miss and Mister FAMU, I think of two halves making a whole. Specifically, the analogy of the left brain and the right brain. https://twitter.com/drewcozartt/status/1253078149237223424">https://twitter.com/drewcozar...
The left brain is responsible for numbers, STEM, analytics, etc. while the right brain is responsible for creativity and artistic expression. You can’t have half a brain, so one must compliment the other to truly function effectively.
When you think of FAMU holistically, you think of the diversity of the student body. Engineers, artists, singers, entrepreneurs, educators, athletes, health professionals. You should want the same in the two figures who will in turn be the face of your university.
Erika is a creative, an AMAZING artist who can sing the roof down anywhere, anytime, anyplace https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="🤧" title="Sneezing face" aria-label="Emoji: Sneezing face"> Marvin is a business student and small business owner that built his brand from the ground up since he stepped foot on campus.
Erika comes from a generational line of hard hitting Rattlers, while Marvin is a first-gen American and student. Erika came from out of state while Marvin calls Florida home.
Both are passionate in their own right, and to have high school students see the range of passion in two of our university’s representatives is a blessing within itself.
Your Mister and Miss should be diverse in their passions while sharing similar LEVELS of passion.
They should be able to differentiate from each other while complimenting one another simultaneously (a difficult task, but possible). An incoming student should be able to look at the pair and say “Hey, there really may be SOMETHING for me on the Hill after all” without feeling
limited to one route or another. As an alumna, I want to rest comfortably knowing that if NO ONE ELSE, the Miss and Mister can adequately recruit the next Broadway star just as effectively as they can recruit the next big CEO.
And this is why, as someone who wants talent from ALL walks of life to ascend to the Hill, I support Marvin for Mister FAMU.
