Yennifer’s journey is feminine. At first, her arc felt unsettling to me in some way. I found it shallow maybe? “All she wants is to be beautiful? Really?” As I’ve come to understand it, it isn’t vapid/shallow/derivative, it’s feminine & it’s powerful.
She doesn’t just want to be beautiful, she wants to be powerful. She wants sovereignty! Beauty is but a part of that power. The feminine desires to flourish/grow/be powerful just like the masculine & if beauty is an element in that strength, it doesn’t make it any less valuable.
She also learns desire isn’t something we can ever be free of. Once we’ve fulfilled one lifelong goal, another will always take its place. She found a way to be beautiful, but can she find a way to be happy? Is happiness even her goal, or is it truly freedom?
I’m all over the place in this thread but I just love this character so much fkshnfjdkfi.
