I hear a lot about vegans/vegetarians shoving their dietary choices on others, but yesterday a man got butthurt that my friend and I didn’t want to eat his brisket/bbq carcass and he proceeded to shake a piece of the meat at us, called us crazy, and ate it sloppily in our faces.
First of all-many of us who choose to eat less meat actually like the taste of meat. I do my best to only eat animals that have been ethically raised. For many of us it’s a work in progress-I haven’t eaten beef or pork products in 2 years, but chicken is harder for me to cut out
“But it’s natural for humans to eat animals”—sure, fine, okay. What’s not natural is keeping living creatures in a constant state of stress and inhumane conditions until they are killed in a stressful manner.
Second of all, I certainly am not going to change my mind by watching someone vulgarly consume meat in front of me. I regularly deal with dead (feeder) animals and meat. I’m not squeamish, I just don’t need/want to eat as much flesh as you do...why is that not ok?
Lastly, while I wish everyone would try to only eat ethically raised animal products, I very much realize that’s not a realistic expectation. Live your life! Choose what matters to you-that’s cool by me. I just don’t need a rando brandishing meat in an effort to convince me
