similar to many, if not all, universities across the country, students at nyu are facing down the language of austerity and "empty pockets". i was curious to find who comprises the office of the provost.

spoiler: very, very white
there's a subtle irony in who gets to occupy these positions of power. people who have read, researched, and written about race, class, gender, social and economic inequality - they're the ones making these decisions. people that have come from the humanities.
cybele raver's research "focuses on early learning and development in the contexts of poverty and policy." she's won numerous awards as a result of this research. if there's someone this highly specialized in the ramifications of poverty & policy, why are we here?
academia, especially within the halls of nyu, is positioned as a radical space. yet, institutional structure lays bare how entrenched, or rather how reliant, the university is on technocratic support from within.

ha! the call is coming from *inside* the house.
