similar to many, if not all, universities across the country, students at nyu are facing down the language of austerity and "empty pockets". i was curious to find who comprises the office of the provost.

there& #39;s a subtle irony in who gets to occupy these positions of power. people who have read, researched, and written about race, class, gender, social and economic inequality - they& #39;re the ones making these decisions. people that have come from the humanities.
cybele raver& #39;s research "focuses on early learning and development in the contexts of poverty and policy." she& #39;s won numerous awards as a result of this research. if there& #39;s someone this highly specialized in the ramifications of poverty & policy, why are we here?
academia, especially within the halls of nyu, is positioned as a radical space. yet, institutional structure lays bare how entrenched, or rather how reliant, the university is on technocratic support from within.
