Wow I keep trying to get over this but I’ve seen it so many times in 2 weeks that my mouth is tired from falling open so: I don’t know who needs to hear this but if you are a person policing what a fictional character calls her genitals—please ask yourself why
For the record, when I’m thinking about what anyone’s going to call their genitalia, which is frequently!, I’m thinking about it from a character perspective.
Henry Evesham calls him penis his “manhood” most of the time, his “shame” when he’s feeling especially heavy with internalised guilt, and his “cock” when he is really fucking losing it with lust.
Poppy Cavendish calls her vagina her “quim” because she is elegant but sexually frank and she exists in 1754.
Constance Stonewell calls it her “fleure” because she is extra and was raised by french nuns.
Apthorp calls it his “cock” exclusively and also thinks, correctly, that he is excruciatingly skilled at using it, though he would never say this out loud, except maybe into your ear in the middle of the opera.
Word choice is part of character development which is an expression of personhood and interiority. Human beings can call their cunt, or their dick, or their throbbing member, whatever in this world they like. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.
