Yes, you can do the little things like reduce meat consumption, take shorter showers, ride your bike to work; those are important and worthy. However, I think it is important to not be ignorant to what truly holds weight on the future of our planet. A thread: #EarthDay
The implication and narrative that is widely pushed is that the future lies on individuals shoulders with the things they can do in their daily lives. However, statistics from the Carbon Majors Database shows that just 100 companies are the source 70% of GHG emissions.
There are two things that will change corporations as a whole. One is simply with consumer market trends, they can be forced to adapt, however, there are clearly enough people not willing to get on board with progressive actions to combat climate change
The second option, is for governments (via our votes) to take action against the corporations and put restrictions on pollution, subsidize clean energy, and ultimately move away from fossil fuels.
Neither of these things happen without everybody using their privilege to vote, to share reliable and clear information, and paint a picture that is unifying for everybody living on this planet. This division that we have going is the least productive option.
That being said, our current President has to be voted out - he breeds and feeds the divisive nature that our country is experiencing right now.
