Revisiting the tenure rollback issue. For a lot of folks that a one year tenure rollback won’t be enough. We don’t know what next year looks like for remote teaching on campuses and for school age kids. We don’t know when labs and field work and funding will open up.

A lost year of fundamental academic work will have much longer and pernicious ripple effects. I still like the rollbacks. But we need also to be rethinking what “productivity” in the age (not just a season, not just a year) of a pandemic means.
